THE FIRST FIX AND FOXI STORY

The foxes first appeared in 1953 in issue 6 of the predecessor booklet "Eulenspiegel". The illustrator was Dorul van der Heide. Nobody could have guessed at the time that this would be the start of an extremely successful 57-year saga.

The wolf, initially called Lubo and later Lupo, also appeared for the first time in this story.

THE FIRST FIX AND FOXI ISSUE

The very first Fix and Foxi issue was number 10 in the series, which was called the "Eulenspiegel special issue". The foxes went on an adventurous journey to the Orient on a flying carpet.

Eulenspiegel 15 was again a Fix and Foxi special issue. From then on, Eulenspiegel and Fix and Foxi were published alternately up until issue 28. The stories were drawn exclusively by Dorul van der Heide (Fix still wearing striped dungarees):

FIX AND FOXI AS AN INDEPENDENT SERIES

From issue 29 onwards, the series was called Fix and Foxi and was produced in an oversized format. The stories were now also drawn by Werner Hierl.
A change in Hierl’s drawing style is clearly visible from No. 31 onwards:

With No. 33, Kasch joined the team of illustrators:

Julio Radilovic drew the story in issue 35, in which Pauli first met Fix and Foxi:
